uros floating island
Some small tribes lived around Puno several centuries ago. They were afraid of the Incas and the Collas. So those tribes (forgot their name) hid in lake Titicaca inside some reed forest. One of them suddenly came up with a great idea, they use the reeds to make islands and boats. It served them well for survival at that time, and now it served them well in tourist business.
These boats only last for 6 months.
The death of the fish is not worthless. It will be integrated into the blood of the tourist who eats it for dinner.
They hunt water ducks for food. But they are not that primitive, they have solar power and watch TV inside their reed huts.
They use the puma shape of the boat to scare away evil spirits (but I think it's to attract rich tourists)
There were around 22 such floating islands in Lake Titicaca. Oldest was around 70 years (fixed, no longer floating). They "drive" the island close to the tourist path.
If in rainy season the boat last less than 6 months. But it only takes them a week to make a new one.
