the powerful talkers

i generally have no interest in left leaning political commentaries. however, after accidentally listened to al frankin on a local middle to right talk radio program, i ran to the public library and checked out the book. frankin raised some valid points supported by well researched facts with footnote and documentation. irrespective of your political belief, you have to give credit to frankin for pointing out the factual inconsistency of our leading conservative personalities. i learned from this book that rush was on welfare for some time even though in his radio program he spoke against welfare and welfare recipients; he divorced two women even though he lamented the infidelity of clinton, weighted 350lb+ even though he talked about the lack of self discipline of many. the book is filled with documented facts to showcase the inconsistencies between words vs.the deeds of the leading figures of conservatism. as a conservative, i think it is high time we demanded high quality leadership who lead by their deeds rather than just words. al frankin hasn't convinced me to change party....yet....however, this is a very factual book just wish it was written by a conservative writer....

Al Franken jokes that he first thought of this book's title and then panicked when he realized he would actually have to listen to Rush Limbaugh. That's the kind of hilarious pathos that Franken passes on from his days at "Saturday Night Live". He never lets up with the Rush Limbaugh fat jokes and just when they an seem to be on the edge of 'just plain mean', he blasts out another semi-truth that's even funnier. Limbaugh is only one of many conservatives that get analyzed, chewed and spit out. No one escapes the humorous wrath of Al Franken, especially regarding hypocrisy in issues like war, marital fidelity and religion. Just take a look at the chapter selection to see who's lined up for public ridicule. Jeane Kirkpatrick's New York Times book review is at the beginning of the book with a riotous response from Franken that sends the highly respected reviewer into a frenzied, screaming, man-eating maniac! Also, the entire Index is a faux - relating every word to Rush Limbaugh and his extraneous girth. How Franken gets away with his highly amusing (and rightfully deserved) conservative Republican bashing is confounding. There is still hope for a dreadfully depressed and ungainly uptight America!

Along with that moron Michael Moore, Al Franken couldn't write a funny book or line if his life depended on it.This wannabe funny book makes the same claims and ONE-SIDED OPINIONS over & over and it gets tiresome very quickly. It'd be nice to see some books from some actual smart liberals with some decency behind their claims and opinions.Rush should be proud to have this book titled after him seeing that the book was written by a hardcore liberal idiot. Looks like Franken couldn't find any better material once again.If you want nothing but "an opinion" by some wannabe comedian, and no actual laughs really, then this is a book for dummy hardcore liberals that don't ever look at both sides of any issuses.
