Pacific Digital U-30115 16x Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive
Simply put, this DVD-ROM drive is great. Installation is a snap (God bless Plug and Play devices). Win98SE saw the drive and said "Hey, DVD ... alright!" I will say that I loathe the bundled WinDVD (interface is horrible IMO), but I acquired a copy of PowerDVD 3.0 and it's flawless. Picture quality is amazing (especially when coupled with a GeForce4 vid card and a flat panel monitor), sound quality is thunderous. I also like to archive my CD collection into MP3 format, and this drive rips full audio CDs in a matter of minutes. I tend to wear out CD/DVD drives relatively fast (replacing them every 6-8 months), but at the Pacific Digital price, it's not an issue.
Long story short, it's probably the best deal you'll find if you're looking for a fast, easy-to-use DVD-ROM drive.
DVD Drive works perfectly

I replaced a less than functional Samsung DVD with this Pacific Digital Drive. The installation was a snap. The directions were short and sweet. Windows 98 recognized it immediately. The picture quality is excellent. It loads music and concert DVD's very rapidly. The WIN DVD software that comes bundled is easy to use and the ability to vary the color tint and brightness is a bonus
cheap but not always functional

I've had this DVD drive for a year and a half now, and it does work most of the time (albeit with a terribly loud whirring noise that sometimes detracts from the movie) but I've found that it cannot detect some DVDs. They are perfectly legit home videos that work in other DVD-ROMs, but not in this one. So every once in a while I have to borrow someone else's DVD player just to watch a movie, which is a nuisance. It will probably be a better deal to buy a more expensive DVD-ROM drive that runs quietly and actually works all the time.
