One bad thing about a Greatest Hits album is that you have all of the artist's previous albums, you really can't justify in buying this. However, I'll give you 2 reasons to buy this even if you have Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, and janet:

1) It has one of her best singles ever and it's only available on this album in Runaway.

2) Some of the remixes are superior to the ones found on other albums specifically Come Back to Me, Alright, and The Pleasure Principle. (However, Love Will Never Do's remix does not fall in this category.)

Plus, you get a decent new song in Twenty Foreplay, a pretty good interview with Janet found inside the album, and some great tracks that never go out of style like Nasty, Control, Miss You Much, Escapade, etc.--well, you know them--all of her hits from Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 plus That's the Way Love Goes. So, yes, buy this album even if you have all of her other stuff. It will be an album that you will play a lot.

This 1995 compilation, Design Of A Decade, is a fantastic collection of hits from Janet's two groundbreaking albums of the 80's, Control and Rhythm Nation 1814. Those two albums, which in my opinion, are pop landmarks, had songs that were catchy and sometimes even memorable. From the funk-pop of the songs "Miss You Much" and "Control" to the ballads, "Come Back To Me" and "Let's Wait Awhile", Janet was still growing and becoming more mature in music business. This collection also has 2 new cuts, "Runaway" and "Twenty Foreplay", which are very stellar songs. They make this collection very listenable. There is one small problem, though. There is one track from her first Virgin release, janet., which is called "That's The Way Love Goes". Why is it on here? It's my favorite song by Janet and all, but she didn't record it on the A&M record label. That's not a considerable flaw, anyway. There is absolutely no filler on here. The booklet has a detailed biography about her life up to 1995 and an achievements page with some of Janet's awards and successful singles. Probably in a couple of years, Janet will release a Vol. 2 collection of her Virgin-label hits, but until then, we have to remember Janet when she we in control. If you have both Control and Rhythm Nation, there is no need to buy this. For hardcore Janet fans, the songs "Runaway" and "Twenty Foreplay", makes this a great addition to your Janet collection. A+

This is a good overview of Janet's early career. On DESIGN OF A DECADE, you get all the hits from her first breakthrough albums CONTROL and RHYTHM NATION 1814. Because she was with A&M on those albums, and this album is on A&M, there is only one song from her "janet." album ("That's The Way Love Goes") since that album was on Virgin. There's two new tracks as well. "Runaway" is a nice uptempo song about being with someone and traveling the world. "Twenty Foreplay" is a sexy rompy ballad that sounds great. They are worth having. However, if you have her albums, there's no need really for this album other than to have all the hits on one CD.

This is a review of the VHS video "Michael Jackson: Video Greatest Hits HIStory" Vol. 1. Whether or not you are a fan of Michael Jackson, this is an essential video because it shows how good music videos can be. BILLIE JEAN is a striking video that broke down color barriers on MTV; THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL has a loose improvisational feeling to it which makes it fun to watch; BLACK OR WHITE is modern masterpiece complete with morphing and the controversial "panther dance" sequence. In the original version of this video, Michael smashes in a car windshield that has racist grafitti on it... he is fighting back against the racism. However, in the version included on this tape, the grafitti is edited out, so we just see Michael smashing a window for no apparent reason. Even so, the video is still an amazing experience! ROCK WITH YOU takes us back to 1980 before Michael's plastic surgery; BAD and BEAT IT include some of the best choreography even seen in music videos, although the version of BAD on this tape is the short version, not the full version with Wesley Snipes. This tape also includes the videos for Thriller, Remember The Time, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Heal The World in their entirety. This video is a powerful mix of music, dance, and film. Even if you don't think Michael is the King of Pop, this collection proves he is the King of VIDEO!

Co-stars include Eddie Murphy, Iman, Magic Johnson, McAuley Culkin, Bart and Homer Simpson, and others. An exceptional video!!! *In the video Black or White, Michael appears to be furiously smashing the windows of a car for no reason. In the original, racist graffiti is painted on the windows. This was edited out in this version. Relax, Michael is not crazy. Or at least not that crazy.

Don't just listen to the album,watch the videos! However there are fewer songs in this package than the audio counterpart. We see videos for hits from OFF THE WALL,THRILLER,BAD,DANGEROUS and of course,the audio counterpart of HISTORY. No fan of the King Of Pop should be without this unless he/she chooses not to.
